

Mr. Moore, age 91 of Jackson, Michigan, departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Jackson County Medical Care Facility following a brief illness. He was born March 5, 1921 in Tazewell, Virginia to the late Shelton and Anna Bowles Moore.
Mr. Moore gave his life to Christ in Virginia at an early age. From that day until his death, he served the Lord.
He attended public school in Tazewell, Virginia and served his country in the US Army during WW II where he was honorably discharged in 1945. While in the Army, Mr. Moore served in the 25th Infantry Medical Department as a Medical Technician Third Grade. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, and a Bronze Service Star. In 1956 he moved to Jackson, Michigan and was united in marriage to Irene Welch in 1960. Mr. Moore was a skilled carpenter and handy man and retired from Consumer Power in April of 1986. He loved gardening, watching baseball and children. He always had advice and something special for the little children. Mr. Moore loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Higby Street Church of Christ where he was an active member of the “Golden Agers”. His favorite color was red and his favorite poem was Your Mother’s Bible, written by George M. Dickerson, in his collection of poems; A Voice from the Virginia Hills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Irene Welch Moore, seven sisters; Susie Moore, Jessie M. Thompson, Nannie M. Peery, Janie Jones, Mallie M. Higginbotham, Ruth Brown Hurd, and Mozelle P. Hopson; four brothers; Samuel G. Moore, Robert C. Moore, Barnes G. Moore and Walter W. Moore.
Mr. Moore leaves to cherish in his memory a sister, Barbara Morrison of Tazewell, Virginia; two brother-in-laws, LeeRoy Brown Sr. of Jackson, Michigan and Richard Welch of Florida; two special nephews William D. Hopson Jr, of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Larry D. Hopson of Jackson, Michigan; a special great niece Heather Hopson of Jackson, Michigan; devoted friends, Fred and Nora Young and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Thank you to the staff at Jackson County Medical Care Facility, for the love and care bestowed on Mr. Moore while in residence there. And, a special thank you to Brother and Sister Burrus and the Higby Street Church of Christ for continuing to visit and pray with Brother Bill.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday February 16, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. with Brother James L. Burrus, Minister Higby Street Church of Christ - Officiating. Burial Roseland Memorial Gardens. Family hour Saturday 11:00 A.M. until service time.
