Bennett Bates Wood Jr.

Bennett B. Wood Jr., Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (Retired), passed away peacefully, Monday, October 3, 2016 with his beloved wife, Maxine Wood, by his side.

Born in Smyrna Georgia, June 6, 1936, he served a tour in the United States Marine Corps and returned to duty with the United States Army. Upon graduating college and the Army’s Officer Candidate School, he earned his commission in the United States Army, and went on to continue serving his country for a combined 36 years. His service included two combat tours in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star Medal with “V” for valor.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Wood, his three daughters Kathleen Carmona, Rachel Ahmed and husband Michael, Sandra Bowden and husband Peter. Bennett and his family have been longtime residents of Jacksonville Florida, moving here in 1985. In his civilian career, Bennett spent years as a certified financial planner and insurance agent.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 3, 2016; and held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.

Following internment, there is a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm at Bogey’s on Mayport Naval Station, 3033 Mayport Rd. Jacksonville, 32233.
