Doris M. Garnes
Doris M. Garnes, was born on February 23, 1931 and went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on February 11, 2020. She was married to the late Leander R. Garnes, and she was the daughter of the late Henry and Adeline Beal of Norfolk, Virginia.
Doris attended Booker T. Washington High School and was employed in the retail industry for more than thirty years. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, had a strong belief in the power of God, and knew him as a healer. Doris served and faithfully attended New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She had a heart for mentoring children, and she worked in the children’s nursery, served and volunteered at a local food pantry, participated as a member of the church choir, and enjoyed attending senior citizens’ functions. Doris was passionate about cooking, baking, shopping, cleaning, organizing, maintaining an immaculate house, spending time with her grandchildren, and vacationing with her family.
Doris was preceded in death by her sisters: Rachel Beale, Thelma Williams, and Mary Watford, and by her brothers: Roosevelt Beale, John Beale, Jesse Beale, and William Beale, and she is survived by her sister Estelle Ferebee, and her brother Luke Beale. She is mourned by her sons: Joseph Hamlin and his wife Joyce, Michael Garnes and his wife Marie, and Rickey Garnes, and by her daughter Terri Thomas and her husband Michael, as well as her grandchildren: Nikki Hamlin, Christopher Garnes, Rickey Garnes, Jr., Jamil Thomas, Horace Trimble, Tracy Trimble, and Cheryl Trimble, great grandchildren: Takia, Erica, Tayshia, Deaunza, Tiren, Janaye, John, Jonae, Nijah, Nieko, Christiana, Trey and Kyle, and great-great grandchildren: Jakobi, Brysin, and “Miss Pinky”. Doris is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a large, loving extended family and many friends.
A service to Celebrate the life of Doris Garnes will be held at 2 pm Sunday, February 23, 2020 at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1996 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
With visitation from 12pm-1:30pm at the Church.
