Dorothy Laura Boutwell

Born to Bernard F. Burrows and Lauretta Flohr Burrows of West Seneca, New York on April 26, 1933, a wee thing, Dorothy arrived with whooping cough. The doctor didn’t think that little Dorothy would live. Her determined father carried her around on a pillow and she not only lived, but lived 92 years.

Dorothy survived an older brother, Bernard, a younger brother Edward “Eddie”, and younger sisters Carol and Bonnie. Dorothy married Dexter Charles Walters on September 10th, 1955 in West Seneca, New York. After their wedding Dexter and Dorothy moved away from the New York snow to the warmth of Coral Gables, Florida. Dexter graduated from the University of Miami with a business degree. They were married 36 years before Dexter’s passing in 1991. Their children are all surviving, David (wife Louann, daughter April), Deborah (husband Bob, children William and Caitlin), Douglas (wife Sharyl, children Samuel, Shannon, Dallas, Danielle and Andrew) and Daniel (wife Shonna) were born over the next 10 years. Moves in Florida to Jacksonville, Ocala, Gainesville and Jacksonville Beach brought Dorothy closer to her goals of becoming a nurse, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Florida. Dorothy married Ernest Boutwell, also a member of CUMC, in 1996. Ernie predeceased Dorothy in 2005. As a member of Christ United Methodist Church on Penman Road since 1970, Dorothy has been a faithful choir member, Pumpkin Patch attendant, Rummage Sale worker and member of Hope Circle.

To Dorothy’s numerous friends and relatives, know that she loves you and misses you, even from heaven.

Praise the Lord, all is well with her soul. There will be no formal service but we ask that loved ones attend the regular Sunday Service at Christ United Methodist Church on Sunday September 14, 2025, at 10:15am.  Located at 400 Penman Road, Neptune Beach, Florida, 32266.  Following the service coffee and donuts will be served in the church fellowship hall, Wilson Hall from 11:30 to 12:00pm.
