I and my three daughters, which were very young, lived Nextdoor to Gene(that’s what we called him) in Starksboro, vt. Gene was one of the nicest neighbors anyone could ever ask for. I spent many hours visiting and chatting. I used to cook enough to feed an army and I would always bring him a plate. I know he truly appreciated a good home cooked meal being that he was a bachelor. My girls loved him, and I think he cared a lot for my girls and he would always let them play under his big weeping willow tree. I beleive he enjoyed having them around considering he had no children of his own. He lived alone, but my daughters would ask him if they could clean his house. Even though there was nothing that needed to be done, he would let them in and they would do what they called cleaning. But, he would always give them a pop and a few dimes. I’m sure he had to clean up a bit after they left lol. When my daughters and I moved, I know he was very sad. My mom and dad, would go to the mall and have coffee a few times a week. My dad worked with Gene at IBM for many years. Gene knew they went to the mall and after we moved he would make a point of going to the mall to chit chat with my dad and to check on how my daughters and I were doing. What a kind soul. We missed him and have often had Gene in our memories when we share our memories of living there. I just happened to check on him, I know he moved to Jacksonville, Fl. I just googled him, and I am shocked. I hope he did not suffer, and I think he lived a good life, aside from occasional loneliness. But, we will always have nice fond thoughts of Gene. RIP gentle soul.😢💐
