

H. Jay Skelton, 72, passed away January 10, 2011. He was born in Hayti, Missouri, one of six children to Harwood Francis and Nora Gertrude Skelton. He graduated from Central Missouri State University. Mr. Skelton was a resident of Jacksonville for the past 40 years. He retired from Peat, Marwick, Mitchell, and Co., then faithfully worked for the Davis Family Office for twenty years. He was able to follow his passion, being instrumental in the development of Pablo Creek Club, where he served as Commissioner for thirteen years. He was a member of Palms Presbyterian Church, president of the American Cancer Society, served on the board of University Hospital and Mayo Clinic, as well as the Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless. Mr. Skelton served our country in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his son, James F. Skelton, a brother, Clyde Skelton (Clara) and a brother-in-law, Gene Edwards. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Jane; daughter, Amy Skelton; granddaughter, Hala Skelton; two sisters, Jeannie Edwards and Judy Sisk (Jim); two brothers Guy F. Skelton (Rita) and Jan Skelton (Carolyn); and his beloved horse, Nitro.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Palms Presbyterian Church, 3410 South Third Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
