Hugh was a true gentleman who lived a quiet and simple life. He had a hopeful, positive attitude and a world view that was formed from his love of history. Black , 3rd Auxiliary Surgical Group, 1st Division, Omaha Beach. He valued art and artifacts from a variety of cultures, especially Japanese and Native American. Artifacts of special significance to his family were also treasured by him. He gave away many of these pieces and always included a story about each piece. Hugh was civic minded and would take great pride in finding the “Gems” of each neighborhood he lived in. He absolutely loved the historic Avondale and Riverside area which was his current neighborhood. He befriended many of his neighbors while visiting the shops and restaurants there. Education was of great importance to him as is evident from the many scholarship funds he created and funded in the name of family members at The College of Wooster, Ohio.
