

Jim was born in Toronto, Canada on September 8, 1924 but lived most of his life in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Florida in 1986. Jim received his two bachelor degrees from Wayne State College.
Jim married Doris Bieske on March 29, 1947 and recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary.
Jim then went on to serve in WWII and earned a Purple Heart and the French Foreign Legion Medal of Honor for his heroic action.
Jim had a career in accounting with Ford Motor Company where he retired from. Jim was a Mason and has earned his 70-year membership award, he had a passion for archery and camping all across the country and cruising with his loving family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Doris Gilchrist; one son, James A. (Sylvia) Gilchrist; two daughters, Colleen Gilchrist, Janis (Steve) Mirabitur; Five grandchildren, Stacey (Dave) Tobin, Jamie (Kevin) Hartfield, Heather (Josh) Martin, Andi Mirabitur and Stevie Mirabitur; Seven great-grandchildren, Addison and Cole Hartfield, Christian and Skylar Martin, Brandon, Joshua, Matthew Tobin, as well as his brother Allan Gilchrist.
The Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at
Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church, 7860 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32256 with the funeral service to follow at 4:30pm. Reception to follow In the Fellowship Hall.
The Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery
