My grandfather was a great man, who loved everyone- never a day goes by that he’s not in my thoughts.  I miss him so much💜

Max..... we miss you especially every Sunday afternoon as we played music together each week until just a very short time till you left us.  Your musical heart ...... and especially “Autumn  Leaves” .......rings in my ears often.  You were one of the special joys of our moving to Florida.  

We miss you especially every Sunday afternoon when we performed music together for those last three years.  I will play Autumn Leaves today and imagine that you are playing the violin with me as we improvise together.  What special musical memories we shared.  

Dearest Greenberg Family, Maxie and Ida Greenberg and my parents Bob and Janice Hayflick were dear friends since 1982 at Oak Bridge Country Club in Ponte Vedra early in the Arvida stages of the now renowned community. Max played golf and the violin  much into his later years. What a wonderful, caring, loving man and good friend. Our deepest condolences. Bonnie and Janice Hayflick, Jacksonville, Fl.

I had the great privilege of interviewing Dr. Greenberg for his alma mater's alumni magazine shortly after his 100th birthday, and very gladly kept in touch with him ever since. What struck me about him (aside from his charming Brooklyn accent!) was his kindness - he always seemed so happy to hear from me when, really, the pleasure was all mine. I was also amazed by his memory. He always asked me about Halifax and Dalhousie - places he hadn't visited in more than 70 years - and could remember the most minute details many would have long since forgotten.

My condolences to Clare, Maxie and the rest of the family - your father was one of a kind. I will miss him, but am very grateful for the friendship we've shared these past few years. And, whenever I get down, I'll always try to remember my buddy Max's mantra: "Life's been good to me, I can't complain!"

For the past two years since moving here,  our weekly playing music with Max until just a couple of weeks ago is a treasured memory.  (Max, violin-me, piano.)  His recent favorite piece was “Autumn Leaves” which we repeated many times each week.  For about 35 years, we played music together.....Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and more...and then folk tunes from memory.  What a great, great musician he was.  He played each note with passion and also freely improvised.  Having been my Dad’s best musical friend and fellow string quartet member for years, I feel that Max’s passing is almost like loosing my Dad again.   His generation is really gone now but the warmth of many musical memories will last forever.  Max, we miss you already and thank you for sharing your joy, passion and discipline for musical performance with us.  Susan and Allen Conroy
