Nancy Lee Nicoll Nystrom

Nancy Nicoll Nystrom passed away at St. Catherine’s Labouré Manor on Sunday, July 15,2012 from complications of a devastating stroke. Nancy was born July 20, 1927 to the late Corwin and Mildred Nicoll in Detroit, Michigan. She lived and was married in San Francisco, CA.

Nancy moved to Jacksonville in 1964. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated Suma Cum Laud from JU in 1970 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She had a passion for painting and was an avid collector of art. She joined the Officers Wives Club in 1982 where she served as President and also held other offices. She also was a member of the Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary for many years. She was a charter member of the National League of Families of Missing and Unaccounted for Service Men and Women from the Vietnam War. She made it her mission to do whatever necessary not only for her husband, but for all those who did not come home from Vietnam. Her trips to DC enabled her to meet with President Reagan and President H.W. Bush to gain their support for the cause that meant so much to her. Nancy was a world traveler. She loved to play bridge and golf, read, sing, and work the Times Union crossword puzzles, but most of all she loved being with her family and friends.

Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, Captain Bruce A. Nystom, USN. MIA, 1966; by her brother Robert, by her sisters Grace and Natalie. She is survived by her sister Jane Andria (Dick), her daughter Andria (Pat), son Gregory, and daughter Diane; Grandchildren Michelle (Marty), Lauren (Tom), Andrew (Lynn), Erynn and Marisa; great granddaughter Briana and nieces and nephews; as well as many loving friends who supported her throughout her life. The family wishes to thank all of the nursing staff at Saint Catherine’s Labouré Manor for their loving attention and care.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on July 27, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church. 1415 McDuff Ave. S Jacksonville, FL.
