JACKSON, Polly Aline 82, passed away on February 4, 2025. A native of Jacksonville Beach, she was born April 21, 1942, to the late James Henry Clemo and Ethel (Harvley) Clemo. She spoke fondly of her three sisters Miriam Clemo Lacambra Hayes, Alice Clemo Clausen Coulombe, and Mary Clemo Bailey, with whom she had many wonderful memories of the four sisters growing up and raising their families. She loved the beach and spent many vacations with her husband Clarence (Gene) Jackson collecting shells along the Florida coastline. They especially loved the seashell treasures they collected together on Sanibel Island over the years. They worked together tirelessly in their yard and garden of their Jacksonville Beach home, growing a beautiful assortment of trees and flowers enjoyed by everyone who came to visit their home. Her other hobbies included playing tennis, crocheting, birdwatching, and cooking, with many of her interests still shared and continued by her family. One of her favorite activities was reading books out on the patio, while watching all the birds and squirrels in the yard. She always loved spending time with family and friends as well, hosting many pool parties and holiday dinners over the years. Polly and Gene loved fishing out on their boat, then cooking up their catch with a big family fish fry and delicious feast including fresh blue crabs and shrimp, hush puppies, and other tasty treats while splashing in the pool.
Polly enjoyed a successful professional career in a variety of office managerial roles, where her organizational skills and attention to detail were an asset. For years she worked with two of her sisters for a local optometrist, and later she worked with her niece in medical billing. In every aspect of her life Polly strived for excellence and led by example for others to follow. Her kindness and compassion for others was a rare treasure as well. She spent many of her retirement years caring for her husband Gene before he passed in 2014. She was also a loving caregiver to each of her sisters as needed.
Married for 52 years, Polly and Gene had no children of their own, but they helped raise a generation of nieces and nephews, watching them grow up, start families and build long-lasting memories along the way. Known to everyone as “Aunt Polly,” she loved her family. She always sent birthday cards to everyone and supported their hopes and dreams by celebrating all of life’s most precious milestones like weddings, graduations, recitals and special events.
She also loved her community. As a long-time member of First Christian Church of the Beaches, and most recently a member of 913 Christian Church, she had many friends that she embraced as an extension of her family. She always greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word, genuinely caring about those around her.
Polly will be loved and missed by all her relatives in the Bailey, Barnes, Clausen, Coulombe, Fisher, and Lacambra families, and by her wonderful friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 am at 913 Christian Church, 2560 Mayport Road, Jacksonville, FL 32233 with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at www.913Christian.Church in Polly Jackson’s name.
