She was born in Shenandoah, PA on December 1, 1930. She was happily married to her husband, John Ratway, for 73 years.
Jean had a career at the Pentagon where she worked with her husband John. She loved attending shows with John at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and traveling to New York to see the latest shows on Broadway. She made sure to share this love with her daughter Alexa and her grandchildren every time they were in town. Jean also loved music and enjoyed singing with her daughter, so much so that Alexa pursued singing in choral groups.
Jean grew up with three brothers, always stepping in to love and care for them when needed. She could always be relied on by her family. Whether it was moving her daughter to New York City, caring for three wild grandchildren while exploring the many Washington D.C. museums and sites, or spending every day with her mother in her last days. Jean loved her family and will be dearly missed.
Jean is survived by her husband, John Ratway; daughter, Alexa Motes; grandchildren Kate Schmidt (Rob), Kent Motes (Casey), and Alex Motes (Summer); great-grandchildren Luke Schmidt, Amelia Schmidt, Claire Schmidt, Collins Motes, and Hank Motes. She is also survived by her brother Daniel Gregas; niece Anne Marie Gregas, niece Pamela Lection, and her nephew, Mark Gregas. She is predeceased by her brothers George and Tom, and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Gregas.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00am, February 10, 2024, at Beaches Chapel at Hardage-Giddens. 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250
