Thomas “Boompa” Henry McCoy, 93 years old, of Cypress Village in Jacksonville, Florida, was called home to the Lord on October 18, 2020. Tom graduated from Wauwatosa High School in Wisconsin, George Washington University, the University of South Carolina, and the Naval Flight Training Program in Pensacola, Florida, where he received his Wings of Gold. Tom joined the Navy when he was 17 years old with the dream of becoming a Naval Aviator. He honorably retired from the Navy after 23 years of service, achieving the high rank of Commander. Following his military career, Tom successfully started Tom McCoy Construction and built beautiful custom homes for over 20 years in Atlanta and the gated community of Big Canoe in North Georgia. After retirement number two, Tom enjoyed splitting his time between Big Canoe Georgia and Marathon, Florida, in the Florida Keys. His hobbies included playing bridge, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing, flying his Camanche 250, and building replicas of the planes he enjoyed flying.
Tom was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, most recently at the Oceanside Church of Christ since moving to Jacksonville.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rose Yahle McCoy; his father, Sylvester McCoy; and his brother, Robert “Bob” McCoy. He is survived by his wife, Carol McBride McCoy, of 38 years; Thomas H McCoy, Jr.; M. Kelly Davis (Charles); Michael M. McCoy; Joseph M. Frazer (Kim); Melissa D. Aradillas (Jose); Dionne M. Butler (Andrew); C. Caye Zivney (Rick); Cassandra E. Kennedy (David); Caren S. Travis (Tony); 28 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens on October 22, 2020, at 10:00 AM, followed by a family graveside service with military honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
