Adalgisa Still, born on November 5, 1942, in Agropoli, Italy, passed away on December 6, 2025, at the age of 83. A resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Adalgisa was a compassionate, devoted, generous, and kind-hearted woman, known for her selflessness, hard work, loyalty, and thoughtfulness. She was cherished and beloved by all who knew her, an inspirational figure whose wisdom, humor, honesty, gentleness, patience, and resilience touched many lives.
Adalgisa, also known as Gisa, in her early life was filled with joy and learning. She loved to cook, sing, and spend summers by the sea. She graduated with a degree in education and had a fascination with the English language.
In her personal life, Gisa was married on May 11, 1968, to her beloved husband, who passed away in 2007. Together, they ensured their daughter Marcy and son Mark had everything needed to succeed in life. Gisa encouraged love and kindness and always brought magic into the spirit of Christmas.
Her career was marked by dedication and service. Adalgisa retired from the Navy Exchange and later as a CSM from Walmart. She volunteered over 18,000 hours for Navy Relief Budget for Baby Program, donating handmade baby blankets. Gisa’s community involvement was profound. She crocheted over 600 blankets demonstrating her commitment to helping others.
Her hobbies were as varied as they were meaningful. In her early years, she loved knitting sweaters for her children and friends. Later, she crocheted blankets and baby blankets, which she donated to Navy Relief. Gisa enjoyed cooking, she loved a good ribeye steak, her famous red tomato sauce, and potato cake. She loved gardening, always keeping basil, rosemary for cooking, and geraniums, daisies, and zinnias to admire. She was a faithful watcher of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy; she found joy in simple pleasures.
Her personal qualities and legacy are a testament to her selflessness and love for her family. Fiercely independent and proud to be an American, she was always there for her friends and neighbors, offering help whenever needed.
Expressions of gratitude go to Community Hospice Riverside for their kindness, Dr. Kadakia with UF Health Oncologist for their efforts, and Dr. Ossi for his positive and gentle care.
Adalgisa's favorite sayings included, "Everything happens for a reason," "It is what it is," "When one door closes another opens." The impact she had on many lives with her love and generosity will not be forgotten. As one of the songs she used to sing says, "Que Sera, Sera - Whatever will be, will be."
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Riverside Event Pavilion, located at 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, Florida, on December 17, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
