

Arthur, who is known as Leon, was a proud graduate of Paxton High School, Class of 1962. Leon completed his apprenticeship with Local Union 234, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He remained a proud member of this tight-knit community, where he developed treasured friendships, for over 60 years. He worked many years as a skilled welder, earning the respect of his coworkers through his dedication and craftsmanship.
In 1963, Leon married the love of his life, Beverly Hammock. Their marriage of over 62 years was marked by deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering love. Leon affectionately called Beverly “George,” a nickname that reflected the closeness and affection they shared.
Leon had a fondness for classic western shows and music, flying, fishing and playing golf. One of his greatest joys was being actively involved in his sons’ lives through Boy Scouts, proudly watching each of them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Family was at the center of everything he did.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Hammock; his sons, Arthur Hammock, Jr. (Michielle), David Hammock (Valarie), and Christopher Hammock (Jennifer); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His siblings; Robert Mason, Mike Mason, and Dan Hammock. Cousin; Ann Findley (Burlin) and Dan Milham.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Hammock; mother, Anita Mason; stepfather, Charles Mason; sister, Debbie Reeves and cousins, John Henry McCurly and Elaine Milham.
Leon will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his devotion to his family, and the unconditional love he showed to those around him. His legacy of love, service, and commitment will live on through the many lives he touched.
Services honoring Leon will be at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home (7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205) on January 30, 2026. Visitation begins at 1:00pm with services at 2:00pm, followed by a brief graveside service at 3:00pm.
