

Charles August Landschoot, 84, died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Baptist South Hospice. He was born December 5, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Carl Francis Landschoot and LaVerne E. (Bodeker) Landschoot.
He played basketball for Burlington High School (Wisconsin) and graduated in 1956. On December 1, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Dawn McIntyre.
He loved his country and began his career in the United States Navy in 1956. He graduated first in his class from NAS Leadership School. He was also honored to have been the recipient of the Navy Ironman award. In 1967 he was awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Navy League of the United States. He was proud to have served in the United States Navy in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal in 1969.
Additionally, he received three Navy Good Conduct Medals during his service. As an aircraft hydraulics mechanic with Oceanographic Development Squadron Eight, he received citations (1967-1973) for Accident-Free Aircraft Operations VXN-8. Additionally, his squadron received a citation for Excellence in Aviation Safety, VXN-8. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1977 from NAS Jacksonville and transferred to Fleet Reserve from 1977-1983.
After his retirement, he worked as a Roux Lab/ Revlon machinist. After retiring from Revlon, he went to work as a trainer/job coach with WorkSource. He loved helping people and making a difference in their lives. He loved collecting guns and participating in local gun show events. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He loved sharing his artistic gifts of painting and poetry with friends and family. He was also a fan of old classic western movies.
He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, where he worshiped and served. One of his greatest joys was helping his wife, Gloria, maintain the grounds with beautiful plants and flowers. They were active in sponsoring the Indian Lutheran Mission, which they were able to visit before Gloria's passing.
Chuck always credited God for his success and lived his faith out daily. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He taught his family the value of faith, loyalty, generosity, perseverance, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic.
He was the father of 3 children. His eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren affectionately called him "Grandpa." The greatest treasures in his life were God, his family, and his country.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gloria Landschoot, to whom he was married for 58 years, his daughter Cheryl Ann (Landschoot) Gepp, and granddaughter, Nicole Landschoot.
He is survived by his sons Mark (Diane) Landschoot and Craig (Doreen) Landschoot; As well as a legacy of Grandchildren: Matthew Landschoot (Jerusha), Angela King (Joe), David Landschoot (Anna), Ryan Gepp (Caryn), Mason Gepp, Katy Littlefield (Chuck), and Derek Reichard; Great-Grandchildren: Eli Landschoot, Grace Landschoot, Theodora Landschoot, Summer King, Haley King, Evan King, Tessa King, Sarah King, Lucas King, and Patrick Littlefield.
His siblings also survive him: Bette Davis, Patricia White, Dennis Kuzelka (Dawn), and Richard (Kat Kerkman) Kuzelka, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Mandarin who watched over him for the past two years, to the doctors and nurses at Baptist South, Vitas Hospice, and Community Hospice who lovingly cared for him during his final days.
The family wishes to invite all family and friends to join us as we celebrate this extraordinary man's life and legacy on Thursday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Church of Avondale, 3519 Herschel Street, Jacksonville, FL 32210. The family will hold a private interment service at the Jacksonville Veterans' Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice, Family Promise of Jacksonville, Vitas Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
