Chiquita M. Stowers

Chiquita Crosby Stowers, 69, of Jacksonville, FL went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2017. She was born in Jacksonville, FL to Calvin Crosby and Mildred Crosby Elleman on May 21, 1947. She was a graduate of Terry Parker High School, class of 1965. Chiquita married the love of her life and favorite fishing buddy, Thomas Cleon Stowers Jr., on July 29, 1965. She spent her working career caring for children as a para-professional at Mt. Hermon Exceptional Student Center; a kindergarten teacher at Victory Christian Academy; a nanny; but her favorite “job” was caring for her three grandchildren who simply knew her as Mimi. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. Chiquita had the gift of not only seeing the good in everyone, but also bringing that goodness out of everyone she met. She never met a stranger. One of her joys in life was dancing the night away with Tom on Saturday nights in Woodbine, GA at the Old Woodbine School House. She and Tom enjoyed camping and fishing at state parks. Chiquita taught us all that life is a gift from God to be cherished each day. Her life was a reflection of the love of Christ and her grace in death was the perfection of her faith. Chiquita is preceded in death by Calvin Crosby and Mildred Crosby Elleman. She is survived by her husband Thomas C. Stowers Jr., children Carol (Lindsey “Kookie”) Brock, Michael T. (Yuriko) Stowers and her grandchildren Connor, Caitlin, and Atlas. A visitation with the family will be 6-8pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral services to be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Dunns Creek Baptist Church, 1425 Starratt Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218 with Pastor Dave Malberg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
