

Eddie Ray Chapman, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 22, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born to Dallas and Ruby Wiggins in Craven County, North Carolina on November 18, 1929. Her family moved to the Tidewater area of Virginia during her childhood. Eddie graduated from Norfolk's Norview High School in 1947. It was in Norfolk that Eddie met and married Russell, her loving husband of 65 years. She supported her husband by serving as the anchor of the family during his 22 years in the United States Navy. Eddie focused her effort on raising her children to be honest, loving, and caring. Her support for her family was constant. Eddie attended St. Catherine's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild, - both in the Food Pantry and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also active in Overeaters anonymous, The Life Center, and was passionate about her Florida Gators. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, walking, playing bingo, and watching sports of all kinds. Eddie was a 38 year breast cancer survivor and often offered support to those who needed it. After the passing of her husband, Eddie found a happy home at Allegro Senior Living in Fleming Island, living there for four years. Eddie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her younger brother Edward Wiggins, and her sisters; Lila Caudell and Luenett Stallings. Her sweet sister, Grace Slade, passed away less than 36 hours before her. Eddie is survived by one sister; Nancy Ellington, four sons; Roy (Donna), Donald (Holly), Kevin, and Gary (Iris), 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends. A visitation for Eddie's family and friends will be held at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Monday April 30 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday May 1 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Catherine's Episcopal Church (4758 Shelby Ave., Jacksonville, FL. 32210) with interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Catherine's Episcopal Church (please specify for Food Pantry) or Northeast Florida Community Hospice in Eddie's honor.
