

Ernest F. Whitehurst, born on February 25th, 1923 in Tarboro North Carolina, passed on Monday morning on January 24th. Ernest was a resident of Jacksonville for 59 years and was self-employed as an automotive transmission specialist for the majority of that time. Ernest was a decorated World War II veteran who received two bronze star medals during his service for America. Ernest was a member of the Cedar Hills Baptist Church and was an active member until the onset of his long term illness. Ernest was dearly loved by his wife and children as an honest, hardworking, caring husband and father.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith West Whitehurst. He is also survived by his sister, Dot Bass and her husband Bill Bass, his daughter Barbara Williams and her husband Harold Williams, his granddaughter Stephanie Martinez and her husband William Martinez, his daughter Carol Whitehurst and her husband Tony Doheny, their children Karen Glogau and Anthony Doheny. He is also survived by much loved nieces and nephews and four step grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home at 7242 Normandy Blvd. on Thursday, the 27th. Visitation will be from 1:00 and 2:00 before the funeral service. In addition, there will be a short graveside military honors ceremony. We will miss him dearly.
