Mom, you have left us with a great and wonderful legacy. When you found out you had this dreaded disease, you never once complained or said why me but trusted in GOD that whatever your will is so be it! You have received your reward for being faithful to HIM. I will miss my stops by the house for coffee when I would be in the area why working, maybe some toast and egg sandwich and little chats we would have while I was there! Thank you for teaching us all the good things life had to offer but most of all about living for GOD ! What a true example of that you have been! I, we, will miss you dearly! I love you ( your number ONE JUGGI)😘

What can I say about Aunt Esther Ruth(Mama Smurf) such a sweet lady, with such a tender heart. You will be greatly missed by the James family in San Antonio Texas. So many great memories.

My Granny who called me shortcake even when I got taller than her, I love that she gave me a nickname. I loved calling her name out when I saw her, Hey Esther Ruth. She was sweet, but if you got her on the neck when you hugged her she would pull your hair. She would let me eat ravioli every time I spent the night, she let us sit on pots at the table to boost us up, she’s the one who taught me how to make mud pies, how to make french toast, how to tie a knot on the end of a thread sounds silly, but man has it come in handy, she taught me how to play a couple of church of God songs on the piano, she taught me things on how to be a wife and a mother. Granny would write us letters, send Christmas cards, birthday cards and underline special words. She showed the love of God in how she handled my Papa. Either Granny or Papa would always tell me a particular story about something funny I did every time I visited. She loved Jesus and she loved her family and we love her so much. I’m thankful she’s with God now and I know no matter what she wouldn’t ever want to leave there. She will be ready to greet us when we arrive. So until then we will have to learn to live without her, but no one can take our memories away. I love you Esther Ruth.

My sweet Aunt Esther Ruth James, where do I begin? Our little sweet pea. I never had to wonder if you loved me....you showed me and told me. You will be missed. But I know you are in Heaven no longer hurting in pain, you are playing the piano and you and Uncle Morris are singing together once again. I love you and tell my Daddy I love him also.

My mom was THE BEST! Always the one with an encouraging word. She was wife, mom, singer, piano player (self taught), cook, the hemmer of pants, the nurse when you were sick, the teller of corny jokes ( and she laughed as if she heard it for the first time) she repeated herself, she repeated herself. She was the maker of rice crispie treats ( we called it Christian crack) cause... you know! She loved Jesus and given the opportunity, she would tell you about him! No doubt she’s seen Jesus! She’s found dad and all her family and friends who have gone before her! She’s waiting on you and me too. Are you ready? I’m still waiting on confirmation from her as to whether there is a certain lemonade being served in heaven... she said she would let me know! Love you mom! In light of eternity, I’ll see ya soon!

Truly a loss for this old world with the passing of your very special loved one . I know her short Lil Self is prancing the streets of Heaven with her Morris and a multitude of Family who preceded her to the Golden Gates . I truly can feel her Joy & Care of those of us left behind . We haven't seen each other as much as we would have loved to in the passing years but once you met Esther Ruth she never left your heart or soul untouched . Her earthly presence will be greatly missed and memories of her will be taken in our hearts to our going home day . Prayers & Blessings to the multitude of Family . May God continue to strengthen & comfort you in the days ahead . Love from the Merritt Family ; Patricia . Dan & Family
