He had been surrounded by his loving family throughout the past several months and leaves behind a host of friends. Floyd never met a stranger. There are so many people to whom he touched through his life - be they shipmates, neighbors, cashiers and even the post man. His infectious way will remain with all he knew. A parishioner of Christ the King parish since 1968, he sang with the choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Rosa Maria Townsend and was the father of six children; Rose Marie Posey (deceased), Floyd E. Townsend Jr. (Deceased), Larry C. Townsend, Christopher C. Townsend, Ana F. Powell and Christina Townsend. He was the grandfather to 15, great grandfather to 12 and great-great grandfather to 4.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at one o’clock in the afternoon at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial to follow, with full military honors, at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held Monday evening from six until eight o’clock at Hardage – Giddens, Chapel Hills Funeral Home.
