

Chief Petty Officer Fridthjof Martin Jacobson (Fred/Jake), age 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, FL surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 6, 2025. He was born on June 26, 1948, in Veblen, South Dakota, to Morris and Marlys Jacobson.
Fred was a dedicated family man, cherished by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca, and their children, Robert and Christine Jacobson and his beloved dog Orbit. He is also survived by his two sisters, Burnette (Terry) Reddy of Elko New Market, MN and Mary Lou Maack of Aberdeen, SD; his brother, Allen (Cindii) Jacobson of Goodyear, Arizona, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Marlys Jacobson; his brother, Richard Jacobson; and his sister, Marlys (Tootsie) Berg.
Fred graduated from Aberdeen Central High School, Aberdeen, SD in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly thereafter. During his service, he also attended Honolulu Community College, where he earned an associate in science in Police Science in May of 1976. Fridthjof served with honor and distinction in the Navy until his retirement and honorary discharge on January 1, 1997. After Fred's retirement from the Navy he went to work at Jacksonville University.
A deeply spiritual man, Fred was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he found great joy in singing in the choir, he was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Club. He was known for his kindness, dedication to helping others, and his love for life. He was an avid gardener, a skilled woodworker, and enjoyed taking on home improvement projects. Above all, he treasured his time spent vacationing and visiting family.
Fred will be remembered for his generosity, his faith, and his unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Fridthjof will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11665 Fort Caroline Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32225, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. A reception will be held at the Family Life Center at the conclusion of mass.
