September 29, 1950 – May 22, 2025
Gary Charles Follin, 74, passed away on May 22, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on September 29, 1950 to his parents Gertrude Dawson Callahan and Ira Gordon Follin, both of whom preceded him in death.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Gordon Follin, Gayle Courembis, Gena Goodman and Gwynne (Suzi) Callahan. He was also loved by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Gregory Lynn Follin and William Keith Callahan.
Gary was known for his child-like heart and he enjoyed playing the guitar, performing card tricks, dancing, and counting money at all hours of the day and night. He never missed a chance to show you his funny greeting cards or tell a lighthearted joke. He also took great pleasure in eating hot dogs, cheeseburgers, apples and drinking diet coke. Gary had the rare ability to make people smile just by being himself.
Known for his signature jokes, Gary often greeted people with a smile. He would notice your shoes and he’d say, “I like your shoes—I get a kick out of them.” He was known as the guy who always tried to make people laugh and showed concern for others. You knew he cared about you when he asked, “Do you need some money?”
Though Gary is no longer with us, the joy he spread and the love he had for family and friends lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. The family will gather privately to celebrate his life.
