

Tate, Genelle C, 86, passed away on December 17, 2013 in Jacksonville. Born in Graham, Georgia on July 22, 1927, she moved to Jacksonville in 1931 where she remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from Landon High School in 1945 and married Hayes Tate on February 23, 1946. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Aletha and her brother Onnie Lee. She is survived by her husband L. Hayes Tate, daughter Christy Jones (Michael) and grandchildren Ethan and Molly, daughter Nancy Walton (Doug) and grandchildren Alan and Laura, son Bill (Kim) and grandsons Travis and Adam, son Barry (Suzanne) and two great grandchildren, Lukas and Blake. Genelle was active in the community serving as a lifetime member of the Garden’s Club of Jacksonville where she was a member of the Board of Directors and active in two circles, president of the South Jacksonville Junior Women’s Club, member of the Southside Women's Club, the University Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and school volunteer associations for all her children. She passionately devoted many years of service in numerous capacities to Southside United Methodist Church where her life was an example of giving and selflessness to all who knew her. Services will be held by the family at a later date.
