George Alfred Deloney M.D., age 87, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on May 6, 2025. Born on July 6, 1937, in Jacksonville, Florida, to James J. Deloney of Ozark, Alabama, and Dixie Elizabeth Deloney (Pilcher) of Dothan, Alabama.
George graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955, Southern Adventist University in 1959, and Loma Linda Medical School in 1963. He served as a Flight Medical Officer in the Air Force at the School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. After furthering his studies in Internal Medicine at Emory University in 1967, George returned to Jacksonville and established his general medicine practice.
In 1985, George transitioned to semi-retirement, continuing to practice under various doctors. A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, George lived in the house where he was born for over 50 years, becoming the oldest living resident in his neighborhood before moving to Brookdale Avondale Senior Living Facility in September 2021.
George loved spending time outdoors, often going on nature walks and taking bike rides. He was also an avid tennis player, winning several competitions in high school and playing into his late 70s. He enjoyed classical and spiritual music and was a quiet, reserved individual.
At Brookdale Avondale, George received compassionate care, which comforted him in his later years. He was grateful for the generous church members who would travel to bring him to church services. George shared a special bond with Caspian, his beloved cat, until Caspian's passing in 2024. Even after moving, George would often hire transportation to go to visit his neighbors and his beloved cat. Spending time with his sister brought him immense joy, especially at her 93rd and 94th birthday celebrations, where they created even more treasured memories together.
Preceded in death by both his parents, James J. Deloney and Dixie Elizabeth Deloney, his brother, Jimmy Joe Deloney, and sister, Marjorie Deloney Williams.
Survived by his sister, Mary Meeks (Deloney) of Dublin, Georgia; nieces, Denise Butler (Aaron) of Delta, Alabama, Elizabeth Patton Wells of Dunlap, TN, and Patricia Woodard (John) of Dexter, Georgia; nephews, William Meeks Jr. (Bernadette) of Dublin, Georgia, and Jonathan Williams (Jackie) of Cocoa Beach, Florida; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville First SDA Church, 7951 Lenox Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32221, in memory of George, with the notation "Youth Pathfinder Fund."
