James, better known as Jim, was born in Sunflower County, Mississippi on October 17th 1935. He began his adult life by enlisting in the United States Army, serving three years active duty in Korea, and three years in the Army Reserves. Almost immediately upon return, he met his (future) wife Betty. They married January 31st 1959. He began his career at FMC corporation in 1958, which landed him in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969. He remained a loyal and highly accomplished Plant Manager for thirty-three years, retiring in 1991.
Jim served his community selflessly his entire life. He was deeply committed to the Lord through his churches (Terry Parker Baptist Church, Aspire Church San Marco) by serving faithfully as a deacon, teacher, and on numerous committees. James also helped build his community through Habitat for Humanity (HabiJax) for over three decades. He contributed to the construction of hundreds of homes up until 2019. One of his passions was Little League Baseball, devoting his time to being a manager, coach, league director, equipment manager, umpire and league president for over three decades. His crown jewel was beginning a Challengers Division for disabled children in Jacksonville, receiving the Volunteer of the Year award from the International Headquarters of Little League Baseball. You could find him on the golf course, tending to the nature around him, or spending time with his beloved family.
Jim is preceded in death by his father John Rufus Green, mother Myrtle Estelle Fultcher-Green, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his brother Dennis, his wife Betty, his three children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s wish was for donations to be made to Aspire Church San Marco, and First Coast Habitat for Humanity (HabiJax).
