Janet was born on April 22, 1939 to Eugene and Adrienne Dufresne in Woonsocket, RI. After graduating from St. Claire High School, she began working with Woonsocket Sponging Company as a bookkeeper.
In 1965, Janet met the love of her life, Arthur Leon “Lee” Lowther, at a gas station where Lee worked and Janet conveniently filled up her gas tank. They wed in 1966, going on to have 2 children, Diana Fedder of Broxton, GA and Greg Lowther of New Orleans, LA. Lee and Janet were married for over 55 years.
When Janet had Diana, she was a clerk/typist at USMC Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, where Lee was enlisted as a Corporal, and later deployed to Vietnam. Janet returned to her old employ at Woonsocket Sponging, while Lee was overseas, and continued through the birth of her son Greg until their family moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
During the years that followed, Janet eventually became employed with the Internal Revenue Service, as did Lee. Lee went on to work for the Department of Treasury and was transferred to several locations through the years. Janet made the move with Lee to New Jersey, Georgia, Texas and back to Jacksonville where they both retired. Both Lee and Janet spent their retired years between their home in Jacksonville and their cabin in North Carolina and visiting family in between.
Janet was a passionate about doing crafts, from stained glass windows and creating beautiful pieces of furniture to floral arrangements and cork wreaths. She loved being around her family, her children and grandchildren attending sporting games, going to the zoo or even amusement parks. She made sure that the family was always taken care of from feeding their bellies to extending comfort in their lives. Janet loved to travel and took several cruises, tours and road trips with Lee visiting foreign countries and enjoying the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.
Janet was a beautiful, dedicated and most caring mother and wife. Family came first and was above all else, a value she instilled in all those around her. She had the most generous heart and supported her family and life partner through the many passions and difficulties of their lives, no matter how difficult or trivial it may have been. Janet supported her husband in his career changes, her children in attending school and college, their marriages and the birth of her grandchildren. Her caring nature held no bounds. Her spirit was always joyous, her laughter infectious and her humor delightful. The hole left by her absence is so grand it is an impossibility to fill. The family will miss her greatly.
Janet was predeceased by her mother and father, her sister Irene Carpentier and her brother Roger Dufresne. She is survived by her husband Lee Lowther, her children Diana and Greg, her daughter in law Marcia and her grandchildren Kyla, Reyna, Lucas and Alex.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to St. Jude in her memory. Any letter or notes of condolences can be sent to 4828 Walnut Grove Ct., Jacksonville, FL 32225.
