Jeffery Neal Amos passed away on February 20, 2023. He was 59 years old. Jeff was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded to Heaven - just five months prior to his passing by his wife - the love of his life, Larae Salak Amos.
Jeff will be remembered by those closest to him as "genuine", as in what-you-see-is-what-you-get. We also remember him as these: Loyal. Generous. Kind. A gentle spirit, but a fierce advocate for animals, especially those that suffered at the hands of humans. Jeff will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his neighbors, and his adopted family at Julington Creek Animal Hospital, where he worked for many years surrounded by the animals he cared about so much. He was a lifelong fan of the Miami Dolphins. He loved the outdoors, especially a good game of golf with his inner circle, or a few quiet hours in pursuit of that trophy bass.
Jeff’s final stretch of road to Heaven was paved with grief, pain and weakness... But even when things were most difficult, he managed to squeeze joy from his encounters with people. He continually loved on the caregivers who came to his bedside, thanking them and saying, "I love you". His visitors were welcomed with a big smile of genuine delight, regardless of how his body was feeling. In every interaction, for someone to hold his hand was what he craved most.
For Jeff, to live was to love.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Neal Amos; his mother, Ruby Wheeler Amos; and his wife, Larae. He is survived by his three beloved dogs Preacher, Lucie and Wyatt; brother, Rob Amos (Lori), and his two sisters, Debi Barnett (Cliff) and Melanie Love (Kelly); mother-in-law Diana Salak; siblings-in-law Joana Williams, John Salak (Anita), Kim Wright, SueEllen Cabral (Suda) and Jeriann Salak; Nephews Levi and Corey Gaylord, Luke Amos, Danny and Kenny Love, Larry Chack III, Collin Chack, and Bentley Salak; Nieces Adrienne, Emma and Reagan Amos, Anna Wright, Autumn Cartledge, Ashley Salak, and Janette Highsmith.
