Joanne was born August 18, 1932, in St. Louis Missouri, the only child of Dr. Joseph Ruskin and Mrs. Helen Ruskin. She spent much of her childhood in Tampa Fl. Joanne earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, and a master's degree from Jacksonville University. She taught elementary school in Duval County public schools for 33 years.
After retirement, Joanne and her beloved husband Donald enjoyed travel. She was for many years an active member at Resurrection Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. She was also an avid reader and crafter
Joanne is survived by her children Donald Michael Thompson (Ann), and Mary Helen Elliott (Michael), her grandchildren Michael Thompson (Annemarie), Caitlin Matthews (Mason), Mary Kate Coleman (Sam), Christian Elliott (Merianna), and Caroline Elliott, and by her great grandchildren Maci and Cason Matthews, Lukas Thompson and Ethan and Preston Elliott.
Services will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3383 North University Blvd, Jacksonville Florida on December 19th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
