He was a paratrooper in the United States Army. He served from July 2, 1970, to February 3, 1972.
He worked as a building contractor and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Highlands Baptist Church.
Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Donna Kay Gallion; son, Robert Marlin Gallion; and 2 grandsons, Christopher Gaven Stump and Colin Tanner Stump; great-granddaughter, Brinlee L. Stump; brother, James Mike Gallion; 6 nieces; 6 grand-nieces; and1great-grand-nephew.
Preceding him in death was daughter, Donna Christine Stump; grandson, James Paul Taylor; father, Martin T. Gallion; mother, Mary E. Bowen Gallion; and brother, David Gallion.
A visitation for John will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. The funeral service will follow from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with committal service at 11:00 AM.
