

John Joseph Madigan, age 90, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2013. John was born April 26, 1922 in Jacksonville, Florida to James Edward and Ethel Lois (nee Packer) Madigan. John served in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II serving overseas in Japan and New Guinea. He retired from the Duval County School System after 23 years as a teacher and guidance counselor. He worked four years at Bishop Kenny High School in the guidance department. John volunteered at St. Vincent’s Hospital for 10 years in the Pediatric Department and received the “Volunteer of the Year” award in 1988. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church Riverside for 30 years where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Survivors include two nephews Michael Madigan (Emily) and James Boyak (Helen) from Auckland,New Zealand; two nieces Kathy Shaneyfelt and Nancy Torbert ; one great niece Deborah Torbert ; and one great nephew Howard Frail. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday January 19, 2013, at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in John’s honor to St. Paul’s Catholic Church Riverside, 2609 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.
