

John was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 2, 1934. He served in the armed forces during the Korea War from 1954 to 1957. He was married in 1959 to his beloved wife, whom he met in Dallas TX.
He soon after felt called to serve in full time ministry and attended the Dallas Bible Institute and Tennessee Temple Bible College. After college in 1961, he began his work as a church pastor in San Antonio, Texas, and in 1969 he and Yolanda began work as a missionaries to Brazil. They later completed missionary service in Guatemala. After approximately 50 years of missionary work he semi-retired and returned to the US, where he continued providing online support of teaching and preaching materials to missionary pastors in Guatemala, via a website he created.
He was preceded in death by his father Leslie Albert Rice, and mother Ann Ayers Philhower. John leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Ilma Yolanda Rice of 62 years of marriage, and three sons and their families Paul, David, and Timothy. Their wife’s respectively are Donna, Cindy, and Pilar. His surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren and families are Joseph (Chelsea, Camron, and Jayde), Rebekah (Rick, Aaliyah, Akaylah, and Akai), John (Simran and Roman), and Joy (Reed, Audrey, Sydney, and Kennedy); Ashley (Jeremy and Baileigh), Tiffany (Chris, Elaina, and Carson), and David Jr; and Maia (Nick) and Matthew. He is also survived by his brother James L Rice, nephew David, and his family (April, Michael, McKenzie and Kahli Smith) and niece Laura and her family (Kara Jr, Stephanie, Maryann, Clayton, Vivienne and Isabella).
