On Friday, December 8, 1944, a healthy and beautiful baby girl was born to the late Cecil and Maggie Benson on the island of Eleuthera, The Bahamas. They named her Leanna Pearlene Benson, the youngest of fourteen children.
After completing her studies at The All Ages School, Leanna moved to Nassau, where she began a career in the hotel industry. She later relocated to Key West, Florida, where she met and married the late Nolan Burchill. Their loving union lasted 25 years until his passing.
Leanna found joy in spending time with her family, cooking, and extending a helping hand to others. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives, as she opened her home and heart to anyone in need, assisting countless people throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her children: sons Mervin Benson, Carlos Ellis, and Pedro Sweeting of Nassau, Bahamas, and Abdulah Sweeting of Miami, Florida; daughters Uneska Wilson and Albertha Ellis of Jacksonville, Florida. Also left to cherish her memory are her son-in-law Albert Wilson; daughters-in-law Mary Sweeting and Joanne Sweeting; grandchildren Alycia Wilson, Amaria Lopez, Micah West, Essien Wilson, Joshua Nazaire, and Ava Sweeting; great-grandchildren Aria Crandell and Zaire Charles; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A memorial service for Leanna will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
