Louis Eugene Lanehart, 80 years old, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, March 15, 1945 and passed away peacefully at home, Sunday morning, March 23, 2025. Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Lanehart; Dixie Long, daughter, (David); sister, Ruth Hassett (Pete); Christine (Geoff) and some amazing and wonderful nieces and nephews. Gene was Papa to Christopher, Gabriel, and Elizabeth
After attending Florida State University, Jacksonville University, and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Gene married Mary Ann and began his career working as an underwriter for State Farm. He enjoyed his job and began running the River Run every year, with lots of races in-between. Gene and family attended All Souls Episcopal Church (now Anglican) and was active there until State Farm relocated in January Winter Haven. Gene and Mary Ann, with a little push from State Farm, decided to relocate to Winter Haven too.
They became active in the Presbyterian Church of America. Gene was a deacon and then an elder for some years. He was a community group leader and enjoyed having people in his home. Winter Haven was like a 24-hour a day vacation but after 22 years, it was time to go home.
Gene and Mary Ann returned to Jacksonville and found a home in Orange Park with their daughter and son-in-law.
Gene loved people and was never short for a joke. He enjoyed being around and helping friends and family. He will truly be missed by those who loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Pinewood Presbyterian Church on April 15 at 11 am. The church is located at 198 Knight Boxx Rd., Middleburg, FL 32068.
Vitas Home Health Care went above and beyond to help care for Gene. We will always be grateful.
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
