

Dr. Marcus B. Bergh, M.D., age 93, passed away on January 24, 2015. Dr. Bergh was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Otto Ingman Bergh and Frances Stark Hovey. His family moved to Coral Gables, Florida, in the 1920s, where he attended public schools and then the University of Miami, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1942. During his attendance at medical school at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Bergh was commissioned as an ensign in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy. Upon graduation from Johns Hopkins, he interned at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida and was then assigned to the U. S. S. Vermillion. His last duty station was NAS Jacksonville Florida. In Orange Park, upon release from active duty in the late forties, Dr. Bergh served as Medical Director of Moosehaven and established his own practice and hospital. He built Pureal Medical Center in the early fifties. He served the medical, surgical and obstetrical needs of the community for over forty years. Dr. Bergh had a passion for life and the organization of knowledge. From the time his English teacher at Ponce de Leon high school required him to write a paper about his ideas, Dr. Bergh was devoted to discovering the best way humans can fulfill their needs and dreams so they can be the best they can be. He authored a trilogy of books: The Relative Universe, Forty Proofs of Actual Totality, and Actions of Actual Totality (unfinished). Dr. Bergh is survived by his wife, Barbro Lovegren, and eight children, twenty one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His children are Barbara Adams (Gene) of Overland Park, Kansas, Marcus B. Bergh, Jr. (Olivia) of Brentwood, Tennessee, John Bergh of Richmond,Texas, Donna Rissman (Steve) of Windermere, Florida, Susan Barrett (John) of Athens, Georgia, Pamela Woodruff (Jack) of Greenwich, Connecticut, Connie Bergh (Ronnie Hodge) of Hastings, Florida and Karin Rice (Kevin) of Severna Park, Maryland. Arrangements under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 6-8pm at the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 32073. Funeral services to be held in the chapel on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:00pm with interment at Magnolia Cemetery, 1040 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
