God’s angel of mercy, Margaret Anne (Gibbs) Woods of Jacksonville, returned home to the kingdom of heaven on October 31, 2025, at age 84. “Maggie,” as she was known to her friends and family, passed peacefully in her sleep and entered the rest she so well deserved.
Margaret, daughter of George Ray and Annie Ruth (Infinger) Gibbs, was born in Waycross, Georgia and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Crawford W. Long Nursing School in Atlanta, and the University of North Florida where she earned her BSN while working as the director of nursing at St. Vincent’s Hospital, serving in the Florida Air National Guard, and caring for her husband Ron Woods and their three children.
In addition to her hospital career, her Christ-like passion to serve others led her to become a military nurse. She joined the Air National Guard and rose through the ranks. She became active duty when she was named chief nurse and stationed at Andrews AFB in Washington, DC. She oversaw the Air National Guard nursing program and ultimately achieved the rank of Colonel before retiring. She also retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital after 40 years of dedicated service.
Margaret was raised in the Christian faith and was a lifelong member of Murray Hill United Methodist Church. Through her selflessness, she instilled in her family the example of what a good and faithful servant should be, and she will always be remembered for her great kindness to all. No scripture describes her better than Proverbs 31:25-31, and as it says, we honor her for all that her hands have done—including making some of the most incredible quilts you’ve ever seen.
To remember and treasure her forever, Margaret leaves two daughters Kim (Woods) Meirow (Michael) and Kelley (Woods) Lancaster (Tom), her son Kendall Woods (Jami), and her sister Beth (Gibbs) Tripp (John). She also leaves her grandchildren Kasey Yaeger, Matthew Woods, William Woods, and step-grandchildren Jordan Meirow (Lisa) and Eden Garnett (Nick). Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Ron Woods, her sisters Ceil (Gibbs) Rogers and Judy (Gibbs) Walker.
A graveside service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, located at 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32218, United States. The service is scheduled for December 22, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
