Marie Catherine Molloy passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. Marie was born on February 18, 1943, on Staten Island, New York. She attended St. Louis Academy, graduating in 1960, then continued her education at Hunter College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree followed by her Master’s Degree from Richmond College of the City University of New York. While at Hunter, she became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and many years later became an advisor for the Kappa Delta Chapter at the University of North Florida. Most of her teaching years were spent at PS 22 on Staten Island, teaching 5th grade and the computer class, creating that program in her school.
In 1966, Marie married her husband of 58 years, William D. Molloy. She continued her teaching career until retiring in 1999 when Marie and Bill moved from New Jersey to retire in Florida. Not one to sit still, Marie began what would become a favorite hobby, family genealogy. She spent many hours researching her family history and creating calendars of family milestones and family trees for her many relatives. Other hobbies included American and European history and playing all kinds of trivia games. Her favorite hobby of all would certainly be attending all her daughter’s softball games from elementary school through college.
Marie was predeceased by her husband William and her parents, James and Marie Jeffers. She leaves behind her loving daughter Tara J. Molloy in Jacksonville, Florida, her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Richard Molloy, sister, Patricia Jeffers, sisters-in-law Anna Molloy Cieplinski, Margaret Molloy Rieder and her husband Rene Rieder, and Bernadette Molloy Larson and her husband John Larson, along with 14 nieces and nephews, her dearly loved Aunt Dot O’Shaughnessy, many cousins and extended family.
Marie will be laid to rest with William at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, October 24, 2025.
