

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Martha Sue Sumner, a devoted wife of 49 years, a beloved mother, and a pillar of strength within her cherished church community. Sue left this world on December 16th, 2023, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and friends.
Born on January 23rd, 1948, Sue was a beacon of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. Her life was a testament to the values of commitment, family, and the deep-rooted faith that sustained her throughout her journey.
In 1974, Sue united in matrimony with her beloved husband, James William Sumner, creating a bond that stood the test of time. Their 49 years together were a testament to the enduring power of love, marked by shared joys, challenges faced hand in hand, and an unbreakable connection that enriched the lives of all who knew them.
A devout member of both North Jacksonville Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL and Eastside Baptist Church in Douglas, GA, Sue found solace, purpose, and a profound sense of community within its walls. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she generously shared the light of her beliefs with those around her. Sue was actively involved in the Church Choir at both churches, leaving an indelible mark on the congregation.
As a mother, Sue poured boundless love and wisdom into the lives of her children, Kimberly DiGiorgi (Stan DiGiorgi) and Amanda Sumner. She was a source of unwavering support, a nurturing presence, and a source of inspiration. Her legacy lives on through the values instilled in her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren; a testament to the strength of the family bonds she cultivated.
In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Sue was a cherished friend, confidante, and supporter to many in her extended family and community. Her generosity, kindness, and warm spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate Sue's life will be held on December 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, with a viewing prior at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charity, continuing Sue's legacy of giving.
As we bid farewell to Sue, let us take solace in the knowledge that her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she find eternal peace in the loving embrace of the divine.
A celebration of James's life will be held on December 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at North Jacksonville Baptist Church with a viewing prior at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your favorite charity in James's honor. A committal service will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
