He was one of eighteen children and born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 23, 1954. He attended grade school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and graduated from Elder High School. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University.
Mike was married to Valerie Pearson Corns on October 6, 1990 and they would have celebrated 31 years of marriage this year.
He was a Navy Veteran who served three years of active duty. He worked as a security officer at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati before moving to Florida. He then worked in civil service from 1984 until 2014 between Naval Station Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport. He held different positions throughout his thirty years of civil service and retired in 2014 with multiple letters of recognition and appreciation as a PUK Supervisor for supply aviation support detachment.
Mike was a Scout Cubmaster of Troop 473, Den 1 while his children were growing up and he was also a member of the American Legion Post 137. He enjoyed reconnecting and visiting with childhood friends and family in Sedamsville. He was a proud patriot with a passion for U.S. History, coin collecting, researching his family ancestry and spending time outdoors. His favorite author was James Patterson and he loved fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was survived by his wife: Valerie Corns. His children: Amanda Strickler (Kermit), Tommy Corns (Corey), Sean Campbell (Julie), and Jayme McKenzie (Joshua). Grandchildren: Kelsey Greer, Cadance Smith, Annalease Campbell, Patiyn Strickler, Laneney Campbell, Annalee McKenzie, Brody Strickler, Sydnee Corns, Corbin Campbell, Dominic Corns, and Wyatt McKenzie.
Sisters: Jean, Jane, Patti, Jenny, Theresa, Linda, Janet, Evelyn, Ann, and Betty.
Predeceased by: John and Catherine Corns (parents), Mary and Dorothy (sisters), and John, Ed, Joe, Tom, and George (brothers).
The visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held graveside at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205 on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 11:00 am.
