Patricia Masters Hartwig, lovingly known as “Patsy”, went home to Heaven on August 30, 2019 at the age of 83 years. She was a Jacksonville, Florida native, born February 22, 1936 to Everett and Cozie Masters and was raised in Murray Hill with her older brother Everett, Jr. and her younger sisters Rita and Brenda.
Patsy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1953. She worked for Prudential for over 10 years before “retiring” to raise her children, Kenneth and Amy, but we all know that a mother never truly retires, especially when they become a grandmother! She married Charles Hartwig, her sweetheart and the love of her life on January 26, 1957 and they shared 62 wonderful years together in Birmingham, Pittsburgh, Tampa and finally returning to Jacksonville in 1980.
Patsy was very active in church throughout her life, particularly at Spencer Memorial Baptist in Tampa and later at First Baptist in Jacksonville where she faithfully taught her Sunday School class for almost 40 years. She was active in community affairs serving as the Tampa area secretary for the Institute in Basic Youth Conflicts, working the Duval County election polls for almost 30 years, and baking the deliciously popular blueberry pies for the annual Bostwick Blueberry Festival for 21 years.
Patsy loved attending church, cheering for Gator sports teams (Go Gators!!), cooking meals for her family on special occasions, and maintaining her lawn and rose garden. She also enjoyed walking in her
neighborhood for exercise and she participated in several Gate River Run events.
Patsy is survived by her husband and sweetheart, Charles Hartwig, Jr., their son Kenneth (Marrisa) and their daughter Amy. She is also survived by her brother Everett Masters, Jr. (Marie), her sister Brenda Sawyer, six nieces, four nephews, four grandchildren (Daphne, Phillip, Daniel and John, Jr.) and one great grandchild. To Patsy, God and family were everything.
A celebration service will take place at First Baptist Church (Hobson Auditorium), 124 W. Ashley Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202 on Friday, September 6th at noon with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can go to the First Baptist Church Lindsay Scholarship Fund, 124 W. Ashley Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
