Patricia Ann "Pat" Pierce Wright, 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida. Pat was born in Camden, New Jersey to Welna “Sally” Margaret Horashak Pierce and William Harvey Pierce.
Pat cherished her childhood in the Northeast but moved frequently due to her father’s naval military service. Pat met her husband Joe in Pensacola, where they both worked for Southern Bell. They married in 1960 and lived another 17 years in Pensacola where they raised two daughters. They relocated to Jacksonville in 1977 as Joe advanced professionally with Southern Bell, where they both remained until their deaths. Pat was a loving and selfless caregiver to Joe in his final years.
Pat had a varied professional background, beginning in Pensacola as a telephone operator with Southern Bell and including work with the United States Postal Service. In Jacksonville, Pat worked as a cash manager with Zayre’s, for an Orange Park obstetrician, and lastly as an EKG technician with St. Vincent’s. Pat very much enjoyed her retirement after St. Vincent’s, staying connected with dear friends Ella, Arnette, Dominique, Joyce, Melissa and Agnes, and caring for her fur baby Sampson. She enjoyed quite a number of crafts and would gift handmade items for holidays. Pat was also surrounded by wonderful neighbors Juan, Howard and Raymond.
Pat’s final health journey with an aggressive cancer brought the gift of many caretakers connecting personally with Pat, commenting on her wit (even in pain) and feistiness. It was a brief illness that has left her daughters and grandson bereft. Pat was kind above all else, was keenly interested in Egypt, and health, and triumphed over a number of life challenges. She was a quiet Catholic but strong in her faith.
Pat is predeceased by her husband Joe, her grandson Dean, her parents, and her brothers Wayne and Randy.
Pat is survived by her daughters Yancy (husband Joel), Gamble (husband Milan), grandson Alex, and brother Billy (wife Terri).
Pat will be laid to rest following a private committal ceremony at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
