

Mr. Ralph Godwin, 94, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband passed away August 15, 2014. He lived a life of honor, perseverance, commitment and love. Born in Bristol, GA on October 12, 1919 to Charles T. and Quinnie E. Godwin, he was a long-time resident of Jacksonville, serving in the US Navy and a veteran of WWII. He retired from Civil Service at NAS Jax and served in the Naval Reserves as Chief Petty Officer. He held membership at Murray Hill Baptist Church. He was predeceased by 2 great-grandchildren Ian and Courtney, brothers Kermouth and Cecil, sister Judy and his cherished wife of 70 years Virginia Belle Godwin. He is survived by his 2 daughters Joan Herring (Carl L.) and Dena E. Johnston, 4 grandchildren Shane Herring (Lisa), Cory Herring (Charlotte), Jenny Bright (Eric) and Rafael Godwin (Carmen), 8 great-grandchildren Scott, Rebekkah, Jarrod, Josh, Jade, Zachary, Jetti and River. “Poppi”, as he was affectionately known by his grandkids will continue to maintain his position in the family as top fisherman, master gardener, golden gloves champion and legendary handyman. The viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 1:00-3:00pm at Town and Country Chapel, followed by a graveside service in Riverside Memorial Park.
