Robert G. Weeks

Mr. Robert (Bob) G. Weeks, 88, of Jacksonville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 17, 2011. Robert was born on June 2, 1922 in Avon Park, Florida to the late Jacob Guilford and Venera Barnes Weeks. He spent his childhood in Canal Point, Florida. Upon finishing high school, he worked with his dad for the Florida State Road Department in the Florida Keys. From there he served in the Navy and was a World War II veteran. Robert then went into business with his father before deciding to attend the University of Florida where he graduated with a degree in Accounting from the College of Business Administration. He settled in Miami and was employed for 32 years by Florida Power and Light in the Accounting and Finance departments. It was here that he met and married Velma Sims. Together they raised a family, eventually moving to Gainesville after his retirement. Jacksonville became home after Velma passed away in 1995. Robert is survived by his daughters Susan Weeks, Lois Van Rees (Ken) and son Bob Weeks (Nancy); his grandchildren Kelly Stone (James), Melissa Van Rees, Jacob Weeks (Autumn), Rachel Van Rees, Adam Van Rees, and Alex Weeks; sisters, brothers and other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 21 at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00AM Friday, April 22 at Westside Baptist Church, 7775 Herlong Blvd. Interment to follow to Mount Zion – Swift Creek Cemetery, Lake Butler, Florida.
