Roy proudly served in the United States Marine Corp for 30 years as a Gunnery Sergeant where he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Vietnam Service Medal. After retirement he worked various jobs before starting his own company, Coastal Refractory Services, Inc.
He was known in his neighborhood for being the master of fish fry parties, which he enjoyed with family and friends. He looked forward to every Thursday which was spent bowling, playing dominoes and sharing a meal with his sisters and niece. He was very much loved by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Eris Carter and Manie Bell Carter, wife Helen Carter, sons Eddie and Kenny, brothers Widma Carter and Donnie Carter and sister Vonceil Blackmon. He is survived by siblings Mildred Philyaw, Shirley Bryan and Linda Costley, daughter Debbie Nicklaus three grandchildren and several great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are being made by Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A visitation will occur Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM, service will be at 12:00 PM and the burial will follow.
