

Samuel William Shive Sr., age 90, passed away on October 6, 2015. He always believed in working for what he earned. Samuel served our country honorably in the US Navy during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam in a career that spanned 22 years and retired as a Sr. Chief - E-8. He was awarded multiple citations and the Victory Medal for WW II. He was also retired after 23 years as an aircraft inspector at NADEP. He was a member of Fleet Reserve for 50 years.
Samuel was a 56 year member of the Masonic Lodge and also attained the 32nd degree within the Scottish Rite. He was a past Master of Middelburg Lodge #107 and a past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star Chapter #315 in Middleburg, Florida. He was also recognized for years as a Life-Time Member.
He was known to family and friends as "Popa" and enjoyed wood working. In fact, he was an excellent craftsman who worked with his hands creating beautiful wood projects. He was also an avid bowler for over 20 years with Bowl America in Orange Park. Samuel loved his family and was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Shive; sons, Samuel W. Shive, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida and Cody Shive of North Carolina and daughter Lisa McCall. He was predeceased by one sister, Doris Rainford and one son, John Andrew Nolan. He has four granddaughters, one grandson, and four great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a graveside service on Friday at 1:00, October 9 at Riverside Memorial Park; 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
