Over the course of his life, Steve was about as well-rounded as you could imagine. The guy who skipped school to shoot pool and later hitchhiked cross-country – both with his best friend Mickey – was the same guy to set up ground-to-air communications while proudly serving in the United States Air Force. Later as a radio personality, Steve’s humor and antics brought laughter to listeners in various cities for over a decade. At the comedy club, he spread so much laughter and memorable good times in Jacksonville that years later, people still say they miss that place. And in sales of any industry, his customers could count on him for honesty and integrity without fail.
He was a parishioner of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Despite every challenge he faced in his life, Steve remained rooted in his faith. He cared about protecting the lives of the unborn, serving on the board of a local non-profit credited with providing free services to women and saving countless new lives. For many years, he was proud to be a regular blood donor, reaching the 5-gallon milestone!
It was this month 30 years ago he met Carrie, working at a little radio station 800 miles away from what was coincidentally the same hometown. In their 27 years of marriage, he devoted himself to taking care of his family, and nothing made him prouder than their three wonderful children. Most recently, nothing matched the joy he felt seeing his new grandson smile at him. Thanks to his son-in-law, he met new family and friends as patriotic as he was and recently joined a local American Legion Post. They also reminded him of the Harley-Davidson Sportster he had in his youth. Fulfilling a long-time wish, he found himself another Sportster and rediscovered the pleasure and camaraderie of riding.
Steve is survived by his wife Carrie, their daughter Clarissa (Brennan), their sons Patrick and Alexander, and first precious grandchild Matthew and his brothers Mike (Lana) and David (Diane). His memory will be cherished by these loved ones, as well as family members and dear friends all over the country. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Tom and sister Sue. May they all rest in peace and be reunited with the Lord.
Steve’s family would like to thank everyone who shared his path through this life for any length of time. He tried to learn and grow from every experience, and that means you had an impact on the man he ultimately became: the loyal husband and loving father we will greatly miss.
A Prayer Service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. North, Jacksonville, FL, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
