Susan, the youngest child of the late Albert and Evelyn Stratton, was born and raised in Jacksonville. She possessed a deeply ingrained love of family and was close to her eight brothers and sisters throughout her life. Susan worked in the printing industry for several years before leaving that field to pursue college courses in graphic design, a change that resonated with her creative spirit. Her love for the beauty of nature was demonstrated in the hours upon hours she spent cultivating plants in her garden or walking the beach collecting seashells.
Susan was deeply devoted to her family. In addition to being a caretaker for many of her siblings in their final years, she was a committed mother, grandma, and aunt. She showered her kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews with deep love and affection, and this love extended to any of the friends that they brought across her path. For so many, she provided an open, generous heart and a warm place to land.
She is survived by her partner, Neill; her children, Alex (Najee) and Daniel (Gabrielle); two grandchildren, Alexander II and Liam; and several nieces and nephews. They will hold in memory her deep kindness and will remember her as a rare kind of person in this world. She was one who wouldn’t hesitate to offer the shirt off her back to one in need, and someone who inspired others to be better.
