Victor Roy Fabian, affectionately known as “Uncle”, transitioned peacefully from this life on December 26, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones after a fierce battle with cancer. He was a devoted son, brother, father, uncle, and great uncle. He was born in Makati City, Philippines to late parents: Fedelino and Priciliana Fabian on March 23, 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: brother, Jesus R. Fabian, sister, Maria Emerita Fabian, and nephew: TJ Marion.
Uncle is survived by his brother: Fernando Fabian (Irma Ancheta), Children: son Angelino R. and daughter, Maria Emerita Andolero. He leaves behind nieces he raised as his own children: Kristen Fabian, Kathalina Fabian-Fontenot (Kyle Fontenot), Kendra Marion, and great nieces and nephews whom he adored: Iliana Fabian, Olivia Esmé Marion, Taison Fabian, Kobryn Fabian, Kayliana Fontenot, Kordelya Fontenot, and Kataleya Fontenot.
Uncle Vic was brave, and he was a fighter. He faced tough challenges even before his hardest battle with cancer. At the age of 9, he was hit by a dump truck. He survived and became the town’s little hero. Or was he a gangster? Either way, he ran the town, and the big kids cheered him on.
Uncle Vic moved to the United States in 1993 and worked very hard to not only support his family in the Philippines, but also care for his mother and nieces while his brother served in the U.S. Navy. He took great pride in his work and was frequently recognized for his outstanding contributions. Most recently, he worked as a culinary specialist at Southside Middle School. Helping people and seeing those smiling faces brought him joy every day. After work, he would make sure to visit and bring flowers to his Nanay.
Uncle was one of those people you could always count on and could truly call a friend. He would make sure you had what you needed, even if that meant sacrificing his own needs. He was also patient and understanding. There were many occasions when his nieces (maybe one in particular) would borrow his car, get into an accident, and he would just say, “that’s ok!” He may have also allowed her to spend an unreasonable amount of his money on makeup (it was only one time, and yes, she got in trouble.)
Uncle enjoyed getting together with his friends and those friends that became family. He very much looked forward to fishing or camping with family in South Florida. He was the lumpia King- always ready with a batch of that and some pancit for the parties. He loved going out to eat at the Japanese Steakhouses, but would simply settle for a breakfast date over FaceTime with his son and daughter complete with eggs, champorado, tocino, and coffee!
Much to his Duval family’s confusion, Uncle was a hardcore Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. You can thank him for that last win against the Jags. He was watching from his hospital bed. If he wasn’t watching football, TFC was on the TV, or he and Taison were finding the next famous Filipino on YouTube.
We will surely miss him saying, “Let’s eat now!” Or just going with the flow and agreeing to the crazy shenanigans his nieces would come up with. Anytime we see a Korean love sign or a thumbs up, we will think of you!
One thing Uncle was fighting so hard to live for was to see his great niece, Iliana graduate from high school. He was beyond proud of her as he played a large role in her upbringing. In his honor, kindly think of him and say a prayer for Iliana on May 30, 2024.
Funeral services for Uncle will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 6th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 11665 Fort Caroline Rd. Jacksonville, Florida 32225.
“Let’s eat!” with Uncle one last time as we Celebrate his Life at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery 850 St. John’s Bluff Rd N, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.
