Walter L. Podein

For many years, he served as an Elder for the Wesconnett Church of Christ in Jacksonville, Florida, overseeing the Finances and Education Departments, and as a Trustee for the Florida School of Preaching in Lakeland, Florida.

Walter was a loving father, husband, and friend who visited hospitals, home-bound individuals, and generously shared his finances with those in need. He earned his Master's Degree from Jacksonville University and taught history for twenty years in Duval County Public Schools. He was always eager to discuss sports, American/World History, and support for youth activities!

Walter's parents, George Sr. and Janette Podein of Valdosta, Georgia, and his wife, Frances Podein (a Duval County Home Economics Public School teacher for 30 years), preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son (Faulkner University LADS TO LEADERS PROGRAM Director), Johnathan Podein, Ph.D., and two granddaughters: Katylyn Podein and Kristin Davidson (Husband Garrett).

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the following:

1) The Orange Park Life Care Center for their loving care of Mr. Podein for several years

2) The Lakeshore Church of Christ for its spiritual support by providing services at the nursing home on Wednesdays and its loving outreach to him in so many ways.

3) NE Florida Community Hospice for over-the-top sympathy and final care provided to Mr. Podein

4) Continued support from the Wesconnett Church of Christ over the last few years.

A graveside burial will be held at 10:00 AM at the Trinity Gethsemane Memorial Gardens on May 16, 2026, with Minister Ryan Fredericks of Lakeside Church of Christ officiating.
