Born February 5, 1947, Janice grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and later made her home in Kansas City, Missouri. She will be lovingly remembered as a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In 1979, Janice moved to Kansas City, MO to serve at the Stonecroft Ministries International Headquarters, where she devoted 26 years to training volunteers across the United States to use Stonecroft’s Bible study materials to reach people for Christ. She later continued her years of service at Good Samaritan Society in Olathe, KS, working for seven years as an assistant to the activity coordinator. Throughout her life, Janice’s steady devotion was evident in the care she extended to others and the purpose with which she approached each day.
One of Janice’s greatest joys was telling everyone she met about Jesus. Her life reflected Christlike devotion and servitude, and she earnestly desired that all who crossed her path would come to know Him. Christmas and Easter held special meaning for Janice, and her family shared many years of thoughtful holiday traditions rooted in Christ. Her grandchildren fondly remember twinkling Christmas tree lights and sugar cookies. Easter was especially dear to Janice, and she took deep joy in hosting family gatherings to celebrate Christ’s rising, along with Easter egg hunts filled with smiles and giggles from the children.
Janice delighted in time spent with family, especially baking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being in nature and loved the ocean. In the moments both ordinary and celebratory, Janice’s presence brought warmth and a sense of what mattered most.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Spayd; and her parents, Harold and Betty Masteller.
She will be missed by her daughters, Liz (Kevin) Faughn and Allayne (Barry) Clegg;; her grandchildren, Jessica (Cliff) King, Tiffany (Cameron) Gregory, Michael Faughn, Lincoln (Kali) Clegg, and Maggie Clegg; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Ivy King, Axl Gregory, William and Turner Clegg.
Services for Janice and Franklin will be held at Central Church of the Nazarene, 12600 W 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, KS 66215, on June 27, 2026. Visitation will occur from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
